If the timing belt teeth have gone and the timing is all out have had to remove the head to check the valves t?

i have had to change the head gasket how do i reset the timing my car is a 306 xs 8 valve

You would need to line up the timing marks,line the marks on the crankshaft %26amp; you also need to line up the camshaft marks,it would be helpful if you had a reepair manual,you should be able to get one at your local auto parts store.If the timing belt teeth have gone and the timing is all out have had to remove the head to check the valves t?
if you are going to remove the head, you might as well check the valves. i suggest that before you start that you remove the spark plugs and hand turn the engine until the 1 piston is at top dead centre on compression stroke. there should be marks on the timing belt pulleys that match up when they are in the right position. makes it easier when you install the new timing belt.
