Head Gasket?

Hi,

I have a 1990 Ford Taurus 3.8 V6 with 157.000 miles. The car has a blown head gasket.

How do you determine which gasket is blown (front or rear)?

Since only one gasket is blown is it necessary to change both?

Since at least one head has to come off, should the same head go back on or, should a remanufactured head go back on?

When a head is sent to a shop to be checked what is it being checked for?

Thank YouHead Gasket?
Why would you only replace ONE? You might as well replace BOTH if you are going to invest in the labour of the repair. Are you doing this repair yourself? If so, I STRONGLY recommend you buy the gaskets from your local FORD dealer. The part number is F5PZ-6051-BB. In this set, you get the UPDATED head gaskets for BOTH banks, the intake gaskets, all new cylinder head bolts, and valve cover gaskets for the '94 model year and newer style valve covers, so you'll have to purchase a set of valve cover gaskets separately. These gaskets are not expensive from the dealer. When the head(s) are sent out to the machine shop, they check for warpage of the gasket surfaces, and regrind the valves if requested. The common failure point on these, is usually the corner of cylinders 3 %26amp; 4. Hope this helps. And, I do not own my own shop LOL.Head Gasket?
he reason head the head gaskets %26quot;blow%26quot; is because the head got to hot and warped. The head, will most likely have to be replaced.

do both and I think you need new head bolts on that one. There was an original problem either thermo, water pump ,radiatoror thermo-fan switch or somethingHead Gasket?
To determine which head gasket is blown you would do a compression test on each cylinder. It is not front or rear, but left and right bank, confusing since the engine is turned for front drive cars. As mentioned earlier the labor is the most expensive, so if you decide to do you might as well do both heads. they would check for valve wear as well as head warpage or cracks. since off then might as well have both heads rebuilt or exchange for rebuild from a competent , rebuilder or machine shop.Head Gasket?
You can buy them at walmart. They're about a dollar each.I'd buy 2. one for each side.(for sale signs)Head Gasket?
hey dutch, THAT WAS GREAT. YES!!!!!!

look at what spark plus is GREEN on the end from coolant contamination. usually cylinder 5Head Gasket?
Find out which cylinder is missing, you might only need to change just one, but with the engine apart, just as well change both of them
