Ask yourself. Do I know how to torque heads? Do I know how to time valves. Do I have manual specific to this engine? Less than 100%, don't pick up a wrench. How to change head gaskets on 1986 chevy suburban?
The 6.2 diesel is a very good engine to have and not too complex.

Disconnect the battery. Drain the coolant and remove the drive belts, fan shroud, and radiator.

Remove the air cleaner and hoses from the top of the engine making sure you mark them for re-installation.

Remove the injector lines, plennum and speed sensor from the rear of the engine... marking its position. Remove the valve covers. Remove the exhaust manifolds. And finally you are ready to work on the heads.

Sounds pretty simple and straight forward.... but I would recommend buying a Chilton's manual.

Just to add to Art's procedure.

Remove the hood. Use an engine hoist to remove the heads as they are very heavy. When tightening the injector lines, leave the fittings loose at the heads. Prime the fuel system. Crank the engine until fuel is visible at the injectors. Tighten injector fittings, and start.
