woa hold up it can also be your intake manifold is leaking. I had this problem with 2 vehicles. You have to get under and see if there is any leaking on the bottom of the manifold. Leave the car on and on jack stands and look to see if it leaks down there. I don't think it's the head gasket. If it were, you would have smoke all the time the engine was running. You would also have water and oil mixed. I would be inspecting hoses and the radiator while the engine is running. It takes a little time for enough pressure to build up and force the water out of a small leak or crack. the book calls for 8.4 Hours, and the gasket set is $56.99 from Autozone, you'll also need new head bolts which are $28.99 - and there's probably some other miscellaneous gaskets that you'll need to go with it (valve cover, exhaust packing, etc)

A gallon is alot! Go have a coolant system pressure test they are easy to do and should point out the leak then go from there. Iwould be positive that there is none in the oil as this will lock up the engine fast looseing that much the problem will show its self before too long I would get checked asap before bigger problems good luck
